Dover Shores Baptist Church in Orlando hosted the first ever baptism services for a Japanese language church in Florida. The new church, which is sponsored by Dover Shores, held their 2nd monthly worship service with 60 people in attendance on Sunday, May 6. Two people were baptized in a joint worship service with Dover Shores.
The first worship service for the new church took place on April 1, 2012 with 58 people in attendance and two people accepting Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. The Japanese church is having monthly worship gatherings under the leadership of Yoshi Ubukata, pastor of Japanese International Harvest Church in St. Louis, MO. Pastor Yoshi has been visiting Orlando each month for the past two years to help start the only Southern Baptist Japanese language church in Florida. He is a volunteer with the Southern Baptist Japanese Church Planting Network.
Pastor Yoshi is helping the new church to get started while a church planter and his wife wait in Japan for visa approval. The church planter was recruited and trained by the network, which is based out of Portland, OR. When he arrives, the church planter will need housing and a car. First Baptist Church of Pine Castle has agreed to provide missionary housing for the couple for 12 months. A car is still needed.
