REACH CUBA: YOUR MISSION WAITS!
It was just a little over fifty years ago that the island of Cuba and its wonderful people were closed to America to visit, enjoy the culture, and most importantly do the work of the Lord as missionaries to this great country. So subsequently after half a century of inaccessibility, the doors of Cuba are finally open for mission teams from the United States. God is moving on the island, as local church plants are growing quickly. Indigenous pastors are reaching out and sharing the good news to all who will hear.
WOULD YOU BE WILLING TO PARTNER WITH “MISSIONS CUBA” AND HELP US TO SHARE THE GOSPEL THROUGHOUT THIS NATION FOR CHRIST JESUS?
We want to rise up a group of committed Christians who want an adventure of a lifetime in the work of missions to Cuba. You and your church can be a part of what the Lord is doing in the nation of Cuba. At the end of 2014, President Obama announced the loosening of travel restrictions and the embargo. This meant that American citizens now have more access to the island.
Become a Vital Part of the Nations Restoration
Cuba has a lively culture and is a great place to do the work of Christian missions. It has incredible food, many historic and exotic sites of interest, and a wealth of musical entertainment. With the acceptance of Americans back into Cuba, you and your church could come help build up the formerly underground church or begin the work of helping orphans all around the country. Just about anything your church wants to do for a mission trip can be found helping these churches.
All We Need Is You!
The possibilities are endless. All we need now is you! An adventure in missions waits for you in Cuba! Less than 90 miles from the United States lay the largest island in the Caribbean. Cuba has the second largest population in the region, and before the U.S. Embargo of 1960, it was one of the most progressive and prosperous nations in Latin America. What you will find is a nation hungry for Jesus Christ and a growing church community inviting us through the work we do as Florida Baptist and the Greater Orlando Baptist Association to partner with them.
Officially, Cuba is a secular nation. There is no national religion, although about 59% of the population would consider themselves Catholic. There is no organized faith. While it isn't illegal to be a Christian in Cuba, until recently they couldn’t openly share their faith. Churches could not build church buildings, but they were free to meet in their homes. The Cuban church is its people.
All throughout Cuba there is a huge need to plant churches. The Greater Orlando Baptist Association partners with ministries that discovers, develops, and deploys pastor missionaries to plant healthy churches all across the nation of Cuba.
What Are Some of the Things We Could Do?
You could minister all over the island. You and your ministry would be able to minister alongside the local Cuban pastor missionary to serve the following ways and a whole lot more:
Home Visits: Visiting and encouraging local church members through prayer, listening to their stories, and getting to know their families
Sports Ministry: Play sports with kids, whether at a local school or a pick-up game in a neighborhood.
Relational Evangelism: Share the Gospel with anyone you meet, whether in a local park, on the street, or a community gathering.
Bible Studies: Share and/or teach in Bible studies or church services
Church Ministry: Worship with local believers and visit different church plants.
Prayer Ministry: Praying for the sick and interceding for Cuba.
Training of Pastors: With GOBA and Renovate as your partner, help train pastors for the work of the Lord in reaching Cuba.
Helping the Churches Fix-up Things: Every church could use a little help doing the work of repair and fixing up of the House of the Lord.
Most importantly, by being open to the people and situations God places in front of you, the opportunities to serve Him and share the Gospel are unending. Be ready to witness the Church as pure as it may have been in the Book of Acts.
A Country Wide Open to Americans, A Thriving Church Waiting for Your Visit
For the first time in half a century, Cuba is officially open to Americans. With an increasing and growing church network, Cuban church members hungry for encouragement from Christians across the world, and so many who have never heard the Gospel, this literally is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
The country’s only public statue of Jesus stands looking out over Havana, and outside the US embassy, in a circle of empty flagpoles, the American flag and the Cuban flag wave in the breeze, looking out over the famous seawall. Cuban churches cannot build church buildings. Instead, the churches meet in homes, because they are free to do whatever they want there. A new church can be created under the umbrella of an existing church. It’s a mentoring ministry, and the church itself is its people. The Cuban church has a purity that is so beautiful. It's grown for the past 60+ years for the very reason that their faith, based on Scripture, is alive.
What You Must Have to Enter Cuba
Up until now Cuba could only be reached from America by Cuban charter flights. There are seven charters a day from Miami to Havana. You must have a Cuban visa to enter Cuba after landing.
How is the Economy in Cuba?
Their goods are sold around the world, tourists flock to their beaches, and photographers run to capture things that can't be seen anywhere else. This island nation is a land of ancient charm colliding with modern flair. The longstanding history and continuing distinction make it a unique place of global influence. Cuba has everything set for change.
What the Cuban Church Needs
All it needs is someone willing to partner with the church and do the work. Will you consider partnering your church with a church in Cuba? Let go of your pre-conceived expectations and get ready to minister with some of the most wonderful pastors on this earth. Be prepared to engage in local culture, build relationships, and follow God’s leading as you serve with your team. Come with an open mind about what God has for you and you won’t be disappointed! Experience what the Church as it was meant to be, that of simply serving and loving Jesus together. You will never fell closer to God as a result of this mission’s experience. When you partner with a church, you form a lifelong bond. Your church could encourage another group of believers by providing help with evangelism, construction projects, and more. The possibilities are endless, but the work is always the same: forming relationships and showing that the love of Christ can span any distance.
